Take Home Books
Most of our students are encouraged to take home books. This is to foster an interest in books and is primarily for enjoyment.
For those students who are reading, we aim to improve reading skills and fluency through practice and sharing in a purposeful activity that highlights the importance of reading.

Reading program
Students select 5 books (below their instructional reading level) and
these titles are placed into their book boxes.
• The first time a book is to be taken home it is introduced by the
teacher and the date recorded in the reading record book.
• The students read at home to the parents who initial and date in the
column next to the title.
• When the students read the same book at school the next day it will be
initialled by the listener.
• Students select which of the five books to take home each night and are
encouraged to vary their choice.
• Students take home books 2 – 5 times depending on need.

Students who are reading longer books may record the title and date in the first column. The comments column should be used for book marking the last page read or the chapter number (Refer to inside front cover of reading book). Each reading session needs to be initialled.
