POLICY
Rationale:
- Seymour Special is primarily a school for students with intellectual disabilities and will only accept students with this classification.
Aims:
- To provide the best education possible tailored to meet the needs of students with an Intellectual Disability.
Implementation:
- Students wishing to enrol at Seymour Special School will need to be referred to the school by a Clinical Psychologist.
- All students who attend Seymour Special school will have an Intellectual disability that causes their level of functioning to be under the I.Q. percentile of 70.
- Students who have a disability, caused only by the following factors will not be admitted to the school:
- Emotion Disorder
- Hearing Impairment
- Language Impairment
- Physical Disability
- Visual Impairment
- Students who have been found to have an Intellectual as well as any other associated disabilities are eligible to be enrolled at the school.
- All students will need to go through the Disability and Impairment Program in Melbourne and will not be admitted to the school without an I.D. number or approval from DEECD.
- New students will need to have their enrolment approved by the Regional General Manager, Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, Benalla.
- All students enrolled at the school will have a Student Support Group to allow parents, teachers and specialists to plan the best program for each student.
Please Note : The Principal is responsible for selection of students who will attend our 2 campuses. If parents wish for their students to attend our Annex at the Seymour Primary School or the Transition Program at the Seymour Technical High School they will need to talk to the Principal.
Evaluation:
- This policy will be reviewed as part of the school’s three year review cycle.
